The health and family welfare department's daily report puts the number of dengue deaths in the state from January 1 till now

Of the 504 children who died at Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health (IGICH) in 2017, 51 were suffering from dengue. In September alone, 16 of the 87 deaths were due to dengue, with the highest figures recorded in August: 17 out of 93.

However, the
health and family welfare department's daily report puts the number of dengue deaths in the state from January 1 till now.

Dr Asha Benakappa, the director of the institute said “IGICH received a total 3,683 suspected dengue cases from across the state this year and 990 of them tested positive through NS1 antigen test. “We are updating the
health department about the statistics every week, but we don't know why the same is not reflecting in the state data. Dengue has been a major issue since June. We get 15-20 patients with dengue symptoms every day. The severity has increased this year compared to previous years. Every time it rains, the incidence of mosquito breeding in fresh water containers multiplies and dengue spreads.”
