- Piaggio plans to expand its sales network in India
In order to scale up its business in India, Italian two-wheeler maker Piaggio is planning to expand its sales network in the country to more than 350 dealerships by the end of this year. Presently, the company has around 250 sales outlets.
Piaggio will be sticking to its premium lineage even as it seeks to grow its volume in the world's largest two-wheeler market.
Diego Graffi, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Piaggio Vehicles India, said, "We plan to expand our volumes in both domestic and export markets. Currently, our sales network is very limited (in India) as we are one of the last players to come on board here. Through this expansion of sales network, we plan to expand our presence. We are planning to have 350 active dealerships by the end of this year."
"Wherever we are present all across the world in the two-wheeler space, we do not want to be perceived as a mass segment player. We are not interested in that (mass segment). We are not interested in market share. We are among the top when it comes to brand recall and that is what we are looking at," he added.
The company sells Vespa and Aprilia brands in India. It sold 74,704 units in the country in 2017-18.
