The establishment of the first university in the Ladakh region has been approved by the Jammu and Kashmir administration on December 15.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the first-ever university in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, named as the University of Ladakh. The establishment of the first university in the Ladakh region has been approved by the Jammu and Kashmir administration on December 15.

PM Modi said, "Ladakh now has first cluster university comprising degree colleges of Leh, Kargil, Nubra, Zanskar, Drass and Khaltsi. The university will have administrative offices in Leh and Kargil."

Apart from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and an Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), the Jammu region has four universities. While the Kashmir Valley has three universities and a National Institute of Technology (NIT).
