- Pollution and unbalanced lifestyle hampering health and well-being of people in Delhi
As the world is alarmingly suffering from chronic diseases related to growing pollution, unbalanced lifestyle and increasing stress level, Delhi NCR is also no more untouched from these diseases. Cosmetic lifestyle, depriving air quality and over stress have been severely hampering the health of men aged between 25-40 and women aged between 35-45.
Thus, studying the chronic diseases arising out of rise in pollution, stress levels and unbalanced lifestyle, Dalmia Medicare has come up with critical annual trend report, encapsulating the dynamics in the Indian healthcare segment.
Men getting bald early
The report identifies that men in Delhi are getting bald quicker and earlier. There has been an alarming rise in baldness caused by stress, poor nutrition, hormonal changes, pollution and smoking. At the age of 25, around 70% men are facing some kind of hair loss and majority of men have a deficiency of Vitamin B complex, mainly B3 and B12 followed by Vitamin D and Vitamin C. The lack of essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamins and minerals can leads to severe hair fall. Among smokers the intake of carbon monoxide makes hair unhealthy and damages hair follicles, also the nicotine hampers blood flow and affects hair growth. Moreover, healthy food suppresses hormones such as Dihydrotestosterone or DHT that plays a major role in causing hair loss in men.
Men also loosing libido
Delhi men are losing their libido at an unusual pace. Over the past one year, there has been an increase in semen analysis and testosterone hormone profile tests. Generally the loss of libido affects both men & women- about 15% to 16% of men, and at least double among women.
Usually, men experience libido in their late 50’s, however cases are now prevalent in the early 40’s. Also, the sperm count associated with healthy men range between 40-300 million, however cases of the count falling below 10 million have risen by 63%. The testosterone level in Delhi men has also seen a significant fall, with more than 60% of them falling in the lower range (low testosterone below 300/350). Lack of essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamins, minerals and an unhealthy lifestyle can be blamed for these worrisome patterns.
Females facing fertility problems
The report indicates that Delhi women aged 35-45 are adversely suffering from complications associated with a late pregnancy. They are more likely to suffer from fertility problems when 35 than at 25 and have a 20-35 % chance of miscarriage.
In the quest to ensure a healthy baby, significantly increasing number of women are going in for better pregnancy tests along with blood tests, such as double marker, triple marker and quadruple marker which may reveal birth defects in fetus. The non-invasive prenatal (NIPT) tests have also gained huge traction amongst the middle class or upper middle class working women.
Pregnancy induced hypertension is one of the leading causes for pregnancy complications along with the stress in women over 35. Also the Preeclampsia, the most severe form of hypertension, can be extremely dangerous for mother and baby.
In Delhi the average age of women having their first baby after 30 has raised three folds. India on an average has 15% miscarriage rate.
City can't breathe anymore
Over the past few months there has been a rise of 60% to 70% in asthma and breathing problems among 15-65 years old people. Large number of people are opting for Spirometry, which is used for Lung Function or Pulmonary Function test used to assess how well your lungs work by measuring how much air you inhale, how much you exhale and how quickly you exhale. Spirometry is used to diagnose asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other conditions that affect breathing.
