Pune is all set to welcome India’s first hospital that will be entirely for the poor.

As the cost of medical facilities getting more expensive, the numbers of patients sidelined into waiting lists across hospitals are also increasing.  Pune is coming up with a unique medical facility that would be offering healthcare services to impoverished patients.

Surya Sahyadri Hospital may soon be the first health center in India that would be entirely committed to the treatment of the poor. The hospital officials share that this new initiative and venture is an effort to give back to society.

The hospital would be offering its services to beneficiaries of two government schemes- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), also famous as Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana(MJPJAY).

The hospital is planning to have new medical establishment facilities, along with reserving all of its bed for the needy scheme beneficiaries. Along with regular treatments, the hospital will also make treatments available for neurology, cardiology, chemotherapy, and dialysis.

Dr. Ketan Apte, Unit Head, Sahyadri Group of Hospitals says, “Healthcare is a noble profession that should give back to society. We are already enrolled under MJPJAY for the last five years, as well as the PMJAY more recently.”

Proposal regarding this initiative has been sent to the state government that is said to be in the end stages of approval.

“These schemes help the poor, and we want to wholeheartedly be a part of them. At our new facility, the location will help many patients — we are just waiting for a final nod,” adds Apte.
