PVR Cinemas, the largest Indian multiplex chain, has announced the launch of its 'Accessible Cinema Program' for people with mobility, hearing and visual impairment.

The first phase of the program will include 50 theatres in 30 cities, equipped with assistive equipment and technology. In the second phase, 95 cinemas and 230 screens will be open for people with a mobility challenge.

Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Joint Managing Director, PVR Ltd, said, "Accessible Cinemas are aimed at making movie-going an inclusive experience for everyone. We believe that with this, we will be able to serve a large unserved section of society."

Gautam Dutta, CEO, PVR cinemas said, "We are excited to launch the accessible cinemas, as we believe that entertainment is meant for all. Accessibility is a shared goal across every team at PVR. Our new structure will better enable us to ensure accessibility is embedded into how we think, design and build cinema to empower every person."

"PVR's Accessible cinemas have been provided with assistive equipment like step sliders, step climbers, roll- a- ramps, stair lifts, and one-step ramps to ensure access for people with mobility issues to wheelchair friendly seats. These seats have been marked on the PVR Website and App along with companion seats to ease the booking process," Dutta added.
