- Samsung India set to double its growth
Samsung India sets out to double its market share by opening 300 new brand shops to sell mobile phones in India. The expansion strategy holds a plan to open large format retail outlets and introducing 20 new products in the year. "At present, we have over 100 exclusive franchise outlets selling Samsung mobile phones and intend to increase it by four-fold in 2008. The way we are progressing, we are moving forward towards the target," reveals Sunil Dutt, Country Head for Mobile Business, Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd. Dutt also informs that the company on an average brings out 40 new products in a year and has already brought out 22 new products. He gives an estimate that about 100 million handsets are expected to be sold in the country, of which 75 per cent would be GSM. In its bid to promote new brand positioning, the company roped in film actor Aamir Khan to endorse its mobile phones. This image makeover will be accompanied by the new tagline “Next is what?” for the promotion of all its communication products. Samsung, which already has two distributors in India, is going to consolidate its network by appointing two more distributors for sales in the Western and Eastern part in the country.
