Sesderma, Spain's brand in beauty and derma care are focussing on the ever-growing Indian market with a plan to open Dr. Serrano Clinics in India. Founded in 1989, Sesderma was the first lab in Spain to use nanotechnology in the formulation of their dermo-cosmetics and was also the first to launch a full line of products containing glycolic acid.
The brand has its reach worldwide and is now aiming to strengthen its foothold in Indian lands through its products and Aesthetic medicine formulations.
In an interaction with Franchise India, Dr. Gabriel Serrano Sanmiguel, Founder and MD of Sesderma Laboratories, shares his expertise and the growth plans in India.
Expanding in India with Franchise Model
Dr. Gabriel shares his views on expanding footprints in India as: “Skincare has always been a big market in India. The focus of the market always has been on the consumers so far. Since last decade, there has been a shift in this pattern. With India’s GDP clocking a healthy growth rate and burgeoning middle class, with increased purchase power are now inclining towards the recommendation of professionals like dermatologists and cosmetologists for the products they use for their skincare. We have also observed a shift in Dermatologists clinical practice. Now more and more dermatologists are taking up the cosmetic practice. In the coming years, professionals driven products would rule the market. It is good for consumers as well because professionals would know all the ingredients of the products, and they can warn the consumers against their abuse and side effects.”
Predictions
He predicts, “The industry is going to shift from salons and beauty parlors to cosmetic and aesthetic clinics. More people are going to go for LASERS and chemical peels kind of procedures. We can see more such clinics coming up in this space. We too are launching our clinics (under the brand name “Dr. Serrano clinicaDermatologica”) in India on a franchise model.”
Expectations From India
Dr. Gabriel states, “We see India and China two big economies of the world with lots of potentials to grow further. In China, we are already riding on a very high growth tide. The kind of acceptance we have seen there is expected in India as well. We have already launched our professional range of products to the dermatologists and cosmetologists. We have also launched some of the products in direct to the customer segment. In 2018, we sold 140+ kind of products, while we have close to 500 different kinds of products across the globe. In a systematic manner, many more products would be launched in India. Besides this, we would be launching our devices in this space. The immediate focus is on the launch of high-end cosmetic clinics on franchise mode under the brand “Dr. Serrano ClinicaDermatologica”. These clinics have been a successful model in Spain.”
