- Similar to AIIMS, government plans to set up All India Institutes of Ayurveda
The government has approved setting up of an All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) at Sarita Vihar in New Delhi, to come up on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Reportedly, the Upper house of Indian Parliament Rajya Sabha was informed about the government’s nod over AIIA, the first referral-cum-teaching facility in the world's oldest health care system in New Delhi.
According to a leading healthcare online portal, Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State, AYUSH said, "The Government has approved for establishment of All India Institute of Ayurveda at Sarita Vihar in New Delhi. The Institute has been conceived as an apex institute of Ayurveda with 200 bedded referral hospitals for imparting education in the field of Ayurveda at MD and Ph.D levels.”
He said the construction activities and procurement of medical equipment and furniture is at an advanced stage of completion.
Naik further unveiled that the government is in the process of establishing a North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy at Shillong. He said that presently 52 universities, including deemed universities, in the country are offering courses in Homeopathy.
"The number of homeopathic doctors available in the country is 2,79,518 as on January 2014," noted the AYUSH Minister.
Moreover, he informed that in Gujarat 17 homeopathic medical colleges are offering courses in homeopathy under affiliation from six universities and in West Bengal, 12 homeopathic medical colleges are offering courses in the subject.
Significantly, the federal Government has constituted Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia Committee, responsible for making of Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India.
