Pratidin, a small format retail chain of Delhi-based Om Daily Needs Retailing, is eyeing for setting up about 150 convenience stores in 2008 as informed by Amit Nigam, COO of the company. Pratidin, meaning ‘everyday’ in Hindi, offers value retailing through bulk-buying and also has private labels on offer. This retail chain already has set up 10 outlets at the places like Sangam Vihar, Chatarpur, Bhogal, Tilak Nagar, Dwarka, Dakshin Puri, Chirag, and Savitri Nagar in the capital. The company is basically scouting for the areas in NCRs and the other regions in North-India for its retail expansion. “For acquiring retail spaces, the preference will be always for a mix of high street, residential and commercial areas”, reveals Nigam. The company will adopt franchise model for its expansion. The company is planning to partner with the smaller stores in the segments like food & beverages, farm products and FMCG. Local mom and pop store owners are the prospective franchisees owning shops with the minimum area of 400 sq ft in high footfall generating areas. However, this may vary on the location – in a market area it would be minimum of 400 sq. ft. and in a commercial area or mall it can go up to 15000 sq. ft.
