Performing arts are creative arts that are performed by individuals or groups in front of a live audience. The revenues of performing arts in India amounted to approximately 2.74 billion U.S. dollars. Instrumental music, vocal music, dance, and theatre are included in the performing arts industry and they are an intrinsic part of cultures around the world.

In an interview with Franchise India, Andrew Walters, Director of International Business Development, STAGECOACH, expressed his views on expansion plans of his company and franchising opportunity in India.

Advice for a first-time franchisee

Going into franchising can be overwhelming for a first-time franchisee. There will be things you are good at, the things that you like doing, but make sure that you do not miss out on things that you are not so good at. So, it is important to either educate or recruit to fill those gaps.

“In the start-up phase, you may have a little bit more time than when you are in the full mode go. So make sure that you plan and prepare adequately while you have time in the beginning because you won’t have the time when you start running fully.” said, Walters. Also, it is necessary to look after your people as they are the company’s best representative.

Opportunity in India

The UK has the history of performing art and theatre. India also has the shared love for performing arts. Performing arts in the UK is based on Western Arts such as Western singing, dancing, and acting. So, in India, the stagecoach is planning to do a fusion of Western and Indian.

“In term for our plans for India, this is our launch in the Indian market; we are looking for area development partners across India, specifically in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore region.” states, Walters.

Future Franchising Plans

Stagecoach plans to have area development in all of the major cities. They have 700 outlets in the UK alone and it is tiny in comparison to India. Walters commented, “We are looking for key people who will take on a particular region and open up multiple franchisees, rather than having unit franchisees. So given our expectations, we think that there is an opportunity for a 1000 outlets in India.”
