- Strengthening the Education system for sustainable development
In an exclusive interview with the State Programme Officer in Directorate of School Education, Panchkula, Haryana, we were enlightened with the prevailing Education system and the efforts to strengthen the system through skill based training.
How can states increase the Education base when it comes to a place when not many youth want to study or the scale of dropouts is rather high?
If we look at the scenario from the last 15-20 years, Education was always considered to be employment and by employment I mean jobs in the Government sector. In my opinion, the scenario should change. People are of the notion that after completion of their higher education, it is easy for them to get a job. But that is not possible in a way because, we have not connected Education with the Industry or more specifically with Entrepreneurship. Also, the Higher Education is not ready to change the system as well. I say this due to the fact that nowadays, the industry requirement is high and they are in dire need for freelancers, technologically skilled people,
Due to less awareness of the youth, they are going for traditional courses. This is the biggest gap between Industry, education and employment.
With respect to how can states can collaborate with other states and industry, how do you think collaborations can happen to improve the education base that is been provided?
There are few states like Rajasthan and Punjab and who have their own industry and expertise. But the sad part is that we are unable to provide a platform for the educated youth based on their interest of space like any internship or Entrepreneurship. So, till the time we provide the students with a global platform for education, industry or for the future market, this problem will not be solved.
Since you talked about Globalisation of Education, along with globalisation, there is also a need for skill based education. How do you think that gap can be filled?
According to me, we need to follow the education system that used to exist 200 years ago. Because, the new industry has completely destroyed Education system and there is no scope left for practical training.
With respect to Government incentives, what are the incentives provided by the government to the states and do you think it can be substantially improved?
A lot of work has been done in providing skill based Education in the Education space and proper funding has been provided by the government in the skill sector.
