Subway on a quick move in Kolkata

Subway, the quick service restaurant chain is all set to double its outlet count in Kolkata from seven to 15 by end of next year. This growth in the number of outlets is to cater to the city's growing appetite for healthy food.

As told to Abha Garyali of FIHL by Rishi Bajoria, Subway development partner for East India, “We are opening the eigth outlet in Kolkata by this month’s end. By the end of next year we shall open more than 15 outlets.” Subway opened its first store in Kolkata at Woodburn Park in August 2005 and since then it has been growing steadily.

Bajoria, who holds the Subway franchise rights in 11 cities has plans to launch stores in the tier II towns of East India. He informed, “We are planning to set up outlets in Guwahati, Shillong, Jamshedpur and Durgapur. We are also looking at launching stores in Siliguri, Darjeeling, Asansol etc.”

The highly appreciated Subway offerings have led to opening of outlets in areas that are currently uncovered. Subway has plans to open the second outlet at the Salt Lake IT hub as the outlet there had registered a 250 par cent hike in sales since it opened three years ago.

Subway currently serves over 2,500 sandwiches a day in Kolkata and hopes to churn out 5,000-plus sandwiches from the 15 outlets by next year end.
