- Swensen’s planning south-India expansion
Swensen’s, a San Francisco-based global ice cream brand, would open 50 outlets in south India in the next five years. Presently, the company has one outlet in Bengaluru that started operations recently.
The company had entered India through a franchise agreement with Devyani International Ltd (DIL), the master franchisee for Pizza Hut, Costa Coffee, and KFC in India and Thailand-based Minor Food Group (MFG). DIL plans to open five Swensen’s outlets by the end of this financial year. These outlets will be set up in cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Kerala and Bengaluru.
These Swensen’s outlets will provide unique dine-in experience with sample luxury ice cream sundaes. The R&D team hopes to develop 24 new flavours for the Indian market. These will be introduced in a few months and these flavours, combined with 24 existing international flavours, will together provide 40 varieties of Sundaes plus shakes and beverages at the outlets.
