Tata Group on Wednesday announced plans to build a semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat. N Chandrasekaran, the Chairman of the conglomerate, while speaking at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Summit, said that the project is currently undergoing negotiations and is expected to commence operations in 2024.
In addition to the semiconductor plant, Chandrasekaran also announced the construction of a 20-gigawatt lithium-ion storage battery factory in Sanand, in the next couple of months. He highlighted the Tata Group's recent substantial commitment to expanding its presence in Sanand, positioning it as a hub for the group's electric vehicle technology to meet the escalating demand for EVs.
The conglomerate is actively involved in various projects, including the construction of the C295 defence aircraft in Vadodara, with plans to extend manufacturing operations to Dholera.
Expressing the group's regard for Gujarat as a vital destination for business growth and the development of advanced technology industries in India, Chandrasekaran highlighted the strong connection between the Tata Group and Gujarat, rooted in the founder's hometown of Navsari. Currently operating 21 companies in the state, the Tata Group employs over 50,000 people in Gujarat.
Training To 25K Professionals Annually
Acknowledging Gujarat's progress, Chandrasekaran commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, initiating the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit two decades ago. Describing Gujarat as a "gateway to the future" due to its strengths, he emphasized the significant economic benefits contributing to social development in the state.
The Tata group is also collaborating with the Gujarat government and the Indian Institute of Skills Institute to construct a facility spanning over 3.2 lakh square feet. This state-of-the-art institute is expected to be fully operational by March 2024, providing training to over 25,000 professionals annually. The focus of the training programs will primarily be on advanced manufacturing, electric vehicles, advanced electronics, and hospitality, he added.
