Tesla Power India has introduced ‘ReStore’, a refurbished battery brand emphasizing self-reliance, skill development, and green technology. Led by Tesla Power India Private Limited, based in Gurgaon with global headquarters in Delaware, USA, the initiative utilizes the Electro-Chemical Battery Enhancement Process (EBEP) to bring about transformative changes in the battery industry.
With over 500 already operational, Tesla Power India has announced plans to establish 5,000 'ReStore Battery Refurbishing Centers' throughout the country by 2025. The company emphasized that this move highlights its commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat, Skill India, Circular Economy, and Sustainable Environment.
Extended Battery Life
According to the company, its proprietary EBEP technology has the capability to extend the lifespan of various Lead acid batteries, including tall tubular inverter batteries and UPS VRLA batteries. This cost-effective solution is expected to prolong the battery's life by 1 to 2 years. The refurbished batteries, branded as ‘ReStore’, will be available to customers at nearly half the cost of a new inverter battery, accompanied by a warranty.
The launch of the ‘ReStore’ brand aligns with the 'Battery Waste Management Rules 2022', where the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has officially recognized Battery Refurbishing as an approved business activity. This policy change is anticipated to give rise to a new service industry, with an estimated 30,000 battery refurbishment centers slated to open in India, providing employment opportunities for more than 1 lakh people, according to the company.
Innovative Battery Waste Management
India discards approximately 10 crore lead acid batteries annually, incurring a cost of INR 40,000 crore to the economy. With its centers, Tesla Power India aims to address both the economic burden of frequent battery replacements and the environmental hazards associated with improper disposal. Moreover, it also promotes a circular economy and sustainability through innovative battery waste management practices.
Kavinder Khurana, the Managing Director of Tesla Power India, emphasized that ‘ReStore’ goes beyond being just a refurbished battery brand; it represents a solution for employment generation within a new battery service industry. Khurana expressed the goal of redefining the market by providing affordable refurbished batteries with performance warranties. Furthermore, he highlighted the intention to train micro and small entrepreneurs on the company's proven Electro-chemical battery enhancement process (EBEP technology), which has already successfully refurbished over 3 lakh batteries.
