The spa and salon industry has been experiencing a lot of new developments in it. The rate at which the innovations and new ideas are being introduced is commendable. The new changes in the industry are taking the wellness game a notch higher.
Having a proper franchising system works wonders for the business. The birth of new ideas is always needed to revive the ever growing industry and to give it new dimensions. In a conversation at The Salon and Wellness Congress 2017 with Norliza Othman, Managing Director at Teratak Spa and Training Consultant, we uncovered about her working model and new concepts in the beauty industry which are worth giving a shot.
- Let’s talk about the franchise business you are working on in Malaysia.
I’ve been running a franchise business in Malaysia since the last two years under the brand of Teratak spa and as a result, the income of the company has tripled. There is a big potential in this business and takes systematic planning for mastering a Franchise system. I am looking forward to bringing my Teratak spa brand over to India because I believe that there is a huge market in India for the franchise system. My company is also looking at the moment at franchising a mobile spa business. It is a very big area to explore. We are not only creating new business entrepreneurs to get involved in this industry but we are also helping those who are unemployed and this will help them in creating income. There has to be a proper way of doing franchising and certain guidelines are required to make it work smoothly. Once you get a hold of franchising, you can go further in the industry with much ease
- The Mobile spa business seems like an interesting model. Can you explain more about it?
Mobile spa in Malaysia is an individual business but currently, we don’t have proper systems to ensure that the international standards of mobile spa business are practised and followed. We have varieties in the business like in beauty business we have manicurists running mobile manicures and spas. We are also working on providing post-natal treatments, that too over mobile systems and we want to make beauty and wellness services very convenient. We are getting a good response from the Malaysians and if we launch the same in India, we are expecting the same excitement and growth in the business from the Indian consumers.
- What do you think about the performance of postnatal treatments will be once they are introduced in the Indian market?
Every lady deserves to look beautiful and come back to her natural self after giving birth. Postnatal treatments have been liked by Malaysians a lot and this being a new concept in India, I am sure it will garner a good response and will be in high demand. The market seems good for such new treatments related to wellness and beauty industry and exploring further will add up to new inventions and developments which are beneficial. The Indian market has a lot of potential and new concepts like the postnatal treatment will catch up fast with the customers.
