GOAL: The Digital Skilling Initiative
Recently, Facebook launched its digital skilling initiative for transforming tribal girls of 5 Indian states into young leaders. The initiative focuses on tribal communities where this new digital skilling initiative ‘GOAL’ will be mentoring tribal girls for becoming village-level digital young leaders for their respective communities.
The’ GOAL’ initiative has been designed to allow young tribal women to become problem solvers in their respective demographic locations, providing them the right tool to emerge successful despite economic constraints.
Empowering women across the diverse economic background
Women entrepreneurship in India are gaining huge popularity as they have been successfully making it big in the modern day business industry. Many women are coming up with innovative business ideas that carry the huge potential for the organization and market.
But there are regions of our country whose girls and women still lack the opportunity and education despite having great potential in them. Thus, initiatives like this will be focusing on such a group of people, empowering them for a better lifestyle and India.
According to recent news, Ankhi Das, Public Policy Director, Facebook India, South, and Central Asia says, “The Internet, especially social media, over the past few years has emerged as one of the most powerful tools for empowering women from across India's diverse social economic backgrounds and varied cultural roots."
Details about Facebook’s GOAL digital skilling initiative
Some key features of Facebook’s GOAL digital skilling initiative are as followed:
o The digital skilling program will be focusing on Indian tribal girls, training them from 5 different Indian states namely Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand.
o ‘GOAL’ initiative will be offering skills like life, digital literacy, leadership, and entrepreneurship to the girls for a year.
o The program will be having on ground trainers that will provide digital literacy through a well designed digital skilling curriculum.
o According to reports, the initiative will be targeting tribal girls that are school dropped out due to financial conditions. But their residence has to be near the skilling centers for ensuring regular attendance.
o 25 women leaders, eminent personalities from different sectors like business, education, health, politics, arts, and entrepreneurship will be volunteering the program, mentoring 4 girls each via Facebook and WhatsApp.
o A girl has to be above 18 years of age, belonging to the tribal origin for participating in the Facebook digital skilling program.
