- This Is How IKEA Will Be Creating Job Opportunities In Maharashtra
IKEA invaded India in the month of August this year by establishing its first venture in Hyderabad. Now the brand is planning to broaden its reach by opening its second store in Navi Mumbai.
The Swedish furniture giant is looking to hire 10,000 people, directly or indirectly in Maharashtra in the upcoming two to three years.
Creating job opportunities
Rajesh Kumar, Principal Secretary, Labor Department Maharashtra Government says, “As IKEA will launch its store in Mumbai next year, they will create around 10000 direct and indirect job opportunities contributing to the growth of the retail sector in the State. Their idea of inclusion and equality are very much in line with Maharashtra government’s development initiatives.”
Generating employment for women
IKEA is expecting to create job and business opportunities for people in several sectors. The company will be expanding in terms of merchandise, store operations, allied assembly services, and supply chain.
The company will also be generating women employment by hiring 50 percent of women at all levels.
Per Hornell, Market Manager, IKEA India shares, “Maharashtra is an extremely important market for us. We have been sourcing from the state for many decades and now we are ready to enter the market in 2019 with our full offer to be able to serve all the customers. Mumbai is unique in terms of its lively and diverse culture, entrepreneurial spirit and creative use of space."
IKEA to shine brightly for the LGBT communities
The world's largest furniture chain is looking to hire people in e-commerce, sales, logistics, digital and Human Resource, hiring mostly locals.
"We believe in equality and providing a balanced, safe and secure work environment for all employees. We are also open for recruiting from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities," adds Anna Carin Mansson who is IKEA India’s people and culture manager.
