In the midst of electric vehicles gaining momentum, we have seen a number of battery related issues that have resulted, in most of the cases, in getting someone working on it to make the batteries better, more efficient and cost effective. Overheating of the battery, low range and long charging time are some of the issues that electric vehicles have been struggling with for some time. While the majority of these issues are technical and can only be solved with time and proper innovation, some of them need critical analysis and management. Arjun Sinha Roy, Co-Founder, iRasus Technology spoke with the Opportunity India to understand the situation of this space and how his start-up is trying to solve real problems.
Execution of the Idea
Both the co-founders, Arjun Sinha Roy and Anirudh Ramesh are Birla Institute Of Technology And Science (BITS) Pilani alumni, and they thought of leveraging their expertise to create a tech solution contributing to the battle against climate change. Arjun with his knowledge of telecom and Anirudh with solar energy verticals brought the iRasus platform in 2018. Subsequently, they built a digital platform to integrate battery data and use it to build battery management applications. “iRasus started as a bootstrapped venture but has now raised a first round of seed funding from marquee investors”, said Arjun while elaborating on the funding part of iRasus Technologies.
Services of iRasus Technologies
When we asked Arjun about the service that the company provides, he said, “iRasus Technologies analyzes and provides insights on stationery and EV batteries. Our platform connects batteries to the cloud for data visualization, analytics, and third-party development and integration. The solution is unique as it is agnostic to the battery chemistry and can work on different types equally efficiently.”
iRasus solution is like an energy data analytics software and its Software as a Service tools are now available to Electric Vehicle Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), battery pack OEMs, fleet operators, telecom tower operators, charging infrastructure companies, battery swapping networks, and other stationary battery systems, etc. “It creates digital avatars of batteries and enables them to be intelligently plugged into any business application. This acts as a tremendous boost for the e-mobility sector. The entire technology stack is highly interoperable and can be used by any battery management service provider” added Arjun.
Impact it Made so far
iRasus has become a game-changer tech company that is resolving several issues related to the management of lithium batteries and making the system seamless by providing accurate analysis. The battery analytics and visualization platform built by iRasus has rapidly become a high-impact value enhancer for e-mobility and battery management for stationary applications. The company offers its data analytics software products and SaaS tools to EV OEMs, battery pack OEMs, fleet operators, telecom tower operators, charging infrastructure companies, battery swapping networks, and other stationary battery systems. It is a Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), and Startup India registered enterprise that won the Facility For Low Carbon Technology Deployment Innovation Challenge organized by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). iRasus aims to expand its coverage to the entire Indian and global markets.
Arjun added that iRasus is working on solving three issues related to the Electric Vehicle Industry: Reliability, which includes Benchmarking, Safety, and Compliance. iRasus has worked with a Three Wheeler Aggregator to solve the question of Benchmarking of Km Range for a kwH of Energy in the battery across different Packs. The Platform allows for understanding Thermal Management and Battery Cell Balancing and helps predict Battery Failures.
