Biswa Sarma, Health Minister of Assam, has announced that Assam will have three new medical colleges in the next three years. These colleges will be located at Kokrajhar, Nalbari and Tinsukia.
Each new medical college will have 100 seats for medical education and will have 500 beds capacity.
Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam, will lay the foundation stone for the new colleges in January.
Currently, there are six medical colleges in Assam including Gauhati Medical College, Assam Medical College, Silchar Medical College, Tezpur Medical College, Jorhat Medical College and Barpeta Medical College.
Besides the three proposed colleges, four medical colleges are under construction at Dhubri, Lakhimpur, Nagaon and at Diphu. These four colleges will together have 400 students capacity.
