- Toonz Academy propels expansion drive through franchise model
Toonz Academy, a subsidiary of the Singapore-based Toonz Entertainment Pte Ltd, has announced the opening of its animation training centres in Ahmedabad and Indore. Presently, the company is having 8 centres in India in Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Nagpur. They are planning to have 20 centres at the end of 2009. Toonz Academy, a subsidiary of the Singapore-based Toonz Entertainment Pte Ltd, is going to set up training centres in Ahmedabad and Indore. The expansion will be carried out in the cities like Bangalore, Chennai and Coimbatore, Kolkata and Jaipur in the near future. The company has overseas expansion plan of setting up 5 centres in the countries including China, West Asia and Africa. They academy gears up to add another 20 centres to their total strength by the end of 2009. The company`s training centres, including the two new ones, offer a 12-month `advanced diploma in digital arts and animation` in addition to short-term courses. The diploma is awarded in association with the European Carolus Magnus University, Belgium that satisfies the requirements of a European vocational qualification, as revealed by the company spokesperson. Next year, the company also plans to start a three-year degree course in animation. Mr. S Ramaprasad, Executive Director of Toonz Academy, has informed that there are total nine franchised centres and for setting up a centre the required investment is Rs.60-70 lakh. The centre requires a carpet area of 2500 to 3000 sq ft. Through its expansion plan, the company is targeting a turnover of around Rs.15 to Rs.20 crore by the end of this fiscal.
