Uber, the world's leading mobility online platform, has launched its ride-hailing services in Germany’s second city, Hamburg. The $75 billion platform, which connects drivers and passengers in 100 European cities, is seeking to achieve scale in a country where it has met resistance from local taxi firms, city governments and the courts.

Hamburg is the sixth German city where Uber is offering its full range of services, alongside Berlin, Munich, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt am Main and Cologne.

Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, Vice President, International Rides, Uber, said, “The ways people move around cities are changing and we see positive regulatory momentum for ride-sharing across Europe.”

“We are partnering with cities throughout Germany to address their growing transportation needs and to shape the future of urban mobility together,” he added.

In Germany, Uber competes with FREE NOW, a taxi app backed by Daimler and BMW.
