- UK-based PizzaExpress to have a larger slice of the organised pizza market
Global pizza brand PizzaExpress is looking at major expansion across India in the next five years by opening 50 restaurants. The brand will invest about Rs 150 crore for the same.
To tap the Delhi NCR market, the brand opened its first restaurant at Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj, Delhi, and is soon going to come up with its second restaurant in Gurgaon next month. Atrium Restaurants India brought the global restaurant chain into the country in 2012 by opening its first restaurant in Mumbai. It runs six restaurants in Mumbai.
"We want to see PizzaExpress becoming the benchmark for pizzas in the country," states Ramit Bharti Mittal, head of strategy and business development for Atrium Restaurants India. "There is more consumer awareness and demand for premium Italian offerings in India at present and our product and restaurant experience are key differentiators for our brand," he adds.
Pizza Express’s Founder, Peter Boizot, brought ‘real’ Italian pizza to the UK in 1965, after experiencing amazing pizza during a trip to Italy. Today, besides India, the brand is present in the UK, Indonesia, the UAE, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Cyrpus, Oman and Gibraltar. PizzaExpress restaurants promise to have the same things in common. Its pizza bases are inspired by Italy.
