A perfect spa is not only defined by its therapies, products, therapists and the locality, however, it’s the interior of the spa, its design and architecture that adds value to its overall quality standards.

Walking through the serene aisle of Spa Alila, one can start immersing into the pool of luxe tranquillity.

Spread in an area of about 9,850 sq ft, the spa has two well lit lounges, spacious therapy rooms and pool area. Great use of space in the spa showcases the art of styling and grooming. It makes the guests feel rejuvenated before taking the therapy.

To get elaborate details about the spa’s appealing design, Wellness India talked to Dr Arjita Kumari, Spa Manager, Spa Alila at Alila Diwa Goa.

Elaborate on the design layout of the spa. What is the philosophy behind its designing?
Located on a peninsular extension of the main wing, the Spa block was to house the treatment rooms; available in double and single room sizes, along with the gym.

“The Spa had been conceptualized to portray a sense of luxury, indulgence and serenity.”

The Architecture of the Spa was designed in response to the site conditions by retaining the existing trees, to provide buffer and privacy. The Spa was woven around the existing trees and landscape to bring in the nature. The centrally located Arrival Pavilion set amidst the water body and floating laterite walls is connected to the Gym, Yoga studio and the luxurious Spa suites. The water bodies all along the covered walkways were used to create a sense of relaxation. The Spa suites were perched to the tail end of the peninsula, looking out into the plantations, set with outdoor decks with private garden and outdoor baths. The spa’s design concept was made to provide a luxurious pampering to the guests through the wellness treatments in the arms of nature. The high typical Goan roof and private landscape courts brought in the SPAtial luxury. The white terrazzo walls, wood screens with the accents of green mosaic tiles, and counters, compliment the nature around.

 

What kind of spa furniture/bed being used in the spa? Elaborate as per the significance of it for the wellness retreat.
All the furniture within the spa was imported from Bali.

How many spa therapy rooms and reflexology stations are available in the spa?
The Spa Alila’s facilities at Alila Diwa Goa comprises of 9 state-of-the-art treatment rooms with an in-built steam room, outdoor chilled showers, private changing rooms, outdoor gardens and lounge beds. To cater to the couples, who wish to undergo the relaxing experience together, the spa offers 2 couple therapy suites, featuring private outdoor jacuzzis, his and her vanity stations, two adjustable treatment beds and lounges for relaxing or taking foot bath, pedicure and manicure treatments. The spa also provides facility of a spectacular infinity pool, yoga studio, a fitness centre and a salon in addition to the guests.

 

What kind of lights being used to enlighten the serene ambience of the spa?
Set in the tropical and coastal area, deep roof overhangs and sheltered walkways were designed to bring in the right amount of natural light and ventilation. The Jaali laterite walls and the skylights filter the day light into the corridors. Moreover, the open to sky courts with the reflection pool and the cover lighting in the spa suites create a serene ambience. The lit water bodies with the floating lights led the guests to the Spa, making their overall experience magical.

Share the details of spa flooring in terms of mosaic, wooden, tiles or stone floor etc.
Materials like natural stones of varying textures, leatherite granites, Vein stones, wood decks along with smooth mirror polished cement flooring and mosaics are used to bring warmth and luxury to the spa.

 

Share the details of bathrobes being used in the spa.
The spa uses honeycomb finished bathrobes, which are made of 100 per cent cotton by Raenco.
