- US-based surf-inspired workout chain Surfset Fitness opens first studio in India
Ride the wave to fitness with globally renowned Surfset Fitness chain that forayed into the Indian wellness market in the beginning of January 2015.
The USP of Surfset Fitness is its surf-inspired workout programmes which mimic the movements of surfing without the water in its studio.
With first studio opened in Santacruz West in Mumbai, Surfset Fitness provides all essential tools to carve the prefect surfer body by integrating balance, core strength, cardio, flexibility, agility and power, all while torching unwanted body fat in high intensity intervals.
Surfset Fitness has been brought to India by entrepreneur duo Kajal and Deepak Tejsinghani under their vehicle YOLO Brands LLP.
Talking about the first Surfset studio, Deepak Tejsinghani, Managing Director, Yolo Brands said, “Indians are becoming more and more fitness conscious and are constantly looking for new and exciting yet effective workouts to break their monotonous routines. We believe that Surfset Fitness will definitely appeal to Indians as they can experience the joy of surfing in the comfort of a studio that will lead them to enjoy their work out and develop a lean and healthy body.”
Further, Tejsinghani told Wellness India about the investment made in brining the brand to India and other expansion plans.
He said, “Initially, we’ve made an investment of about $300,000 to bring this exclusive workout in India. Our immediate target of expansion is Mumbai and next we would focus on other metro cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh etc. In first phase, we aim to open about 15 studios and later would focus on franchising in tier II cities like Pune, Gurgaon and Noida.”
About Surf-inspired workout
Brainchild of US based Mike Hartwick, a former professional hockey player who realised that surfing daily gave him better results in his physique and sports performance than regular heavyweight workouts in the gym.
Hartwick along with his partners Sarah Ponn and Bill Ninteau then developed a surfboard that surfs on land and designed a unique surf-style work out on this board called ‘The Surfset’. They built 11 prototypes and travelled the country, offering classes in the Surfset workout method on the boards. They also caught the eye of billionaire investor and Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, when they appeared with Surfset on ABC's hit show Shark Tank.
Surfset Fitness aims to shake up the way one look and do work out with the help of a patented surfboard to give participants an intense core workout that fuses pilates, plyometrics and yoga. This group workout helps burn body fat through bursts of high intensity aerobic training, build lean muscle and get a ripped core by maintaining balance on a wobbly surfboard.
A single Surfset session can help burn up to 800 calories and it will work on creating a six-pack powerhouse through instability training that requires immense focus and control. The Surfset Board is adjustable for all levels, even for someone with less than ideal balance and a lower fitness level.
Growing rapidly, the Surfset Fitness now offer this unique fitness programme at over 160 locations across the globe. The workout is designed for all age group people from 6 years to 60 years.
