VPN Guidelines Call For Complex Change In Business Processes: Tsaaro

Data Service provider Tsaaro said that time is a significant factor for an organisation to comply with new VPN rules in India. Speaking with Opportunity India Akarsh Singh, CEO and Co-Founder of Tsaaro said that decision to postpone the implementation of rules, are proving to be helpful for the service providers.

“Since the rules have been met with backlash from the VPN service providers to a large extent, the decision to postpone the implementation certainly helps the service providers. However, one must note that the guidelines call for complex change in the business processes and how data is handled. Time is a significant factor in bringing those changes within an organisation's internal and external infrastructure and operations,” Singh said.

Opining on new norms, he said that it is critical to comply with the rules but importance must be given to ensuring that the privacy framework is complied with and the balance is maintained with establishing such a framework.

“There is a necessity for balance. VPN providers allow establishing a protected network connection while using public networks; accordingly, the IP address gets hidden through a specially configured remote server run by a VPN host. This leads to the risk of cybercrimes and misreporting since it becomes difficult to identify the accused in criminal cases. This is one of the main reasons why countries worldwide regulate the use of VPNs or even ban it to an extent. Therefore, it is critical to comply with the rules. Still, at the same time, importance must be given to ensuring that the privacy framework is complied with and the balance is maintained with establishing such a framework,” Singh told Opportunity India.

It aims to contain security breaches and address them in the best manner possible.  And quite specifically, with the onset of the 5G Spectrum auctions, directions like these certainly augment and strengthen cyber-security in the country and are required to address rising cybercrimes.   

Analytics suggest that India has seen a 350 per cent increase in data breaches it suffers from and that there has been a 13 per cent increase in the ransomware attacks individuals have faced in India.
