- "We Create a Culture Where We Can Innovate the Pedagogy for the Students", Ignacio Gafo
Fueled by the learner’s ability and need to consume content fast, when and how they want it, investment in educational technologies is translating into a level of innovation we’ve never seen in corporate training. Tools for content development and delivery, digital readers, virtual delivery, reinforcement, content libraries, gaming and cloud-based administration systems, all are bringing a level of innovation that is at an all-time high for corporate training.
Much of the investment is coming from companies that have traditionally invested in public and post-secondary education but are now shifting their focus to the corporate market. The main reason for this shift is best practices for developing and consuming knowledge-based content transcends age levels, as well as market boundaries for adult education and corporate training.
Raising the quality and scale of innovations in education will positively affect education itself and benefit the whole society. The most successful schools are those that are proactive, experiment and take risks to fulfill their purpose of equipping the next generation of leaders with the skills they will need.
In an interview with educationbiz, Ignacio Gafo, Associate Dean, IE Business School, Spain talks about embracing digital tools, engaging the students and changing the way we interact and work with students.
The future of education
Gafo spoke about how good schools are doing in terms of innovation. The bigger question is,” Are we doing our job? For me, “We have been doing the same things we have doing in the past 300 years. There hasn’t been any major change. Quite a few people talk about the fourth industrial revolution because things are changing incredibly. We often see that companies are looking for new competencies”, said the Associate Dean, IE Business School, Spain.
Stressing further on his institution he said,” IE Business School is focusing on building those competencies and adapting the pedagogy, the methodology and coming up with things like embracing digital tools, engaging the students and changing the way we interact and work with students.”
What does it take to innovate?
Ignacio Gafo opines that a holistic view with a relevant culture which is possibly not the only thing required. Providing students with the right learning tools, empowering them and curate the right ecosystem is equally required.
“We are not trying to be a close minded institution. We try to create a culture where the students can experiment and in this way innovate the pedagogy for the students. Also, it’s about creating the right framework”, exclaimed Gafo.
As technology has advanced and revolutionized the world we have studied in, we have powered the pragmatic transformation in education. Today there is a New world and old world of education and two need to be married for meeting the needs of our customers i.e. – Students and their parents.
