- FROM FINANCE TO RETAIL: A Journey of Passion, Growth, and Innovation
Balancing business acumen with a passion for growth, Amisha Mehta, a multi-brand franchisee from Mumbai and Ahmedabad has carved a remarkable path in retail. Beginning her journey in her family’s trading business, she entered the retail world in 2017, spearheading partnerships with leading brands. By 2020, she had become a pivotal player in the jewellery sector, manages Tanishq stores and leveraging technology to set benchmarks for innovation and success.
In 2002, Amisha completed her Post Graduate degree in Finance, a field far removed from her current career trajectory. Faced with a pivotal decision—to join a derivatives trading firm or work in her family business—she chose to join her father in 2003. Her family business, trading import licenses and duty scripts for over four decades, became the foundation of her entrepreneurial journey. Initially, she focused on networking and expanding the business, a role that brought immense satisfaction. After a brief maternity break, she ventured into retail in 2017, managing the Eternal Gandhi Souvenir Store at Mumbai and Ahmedabad airports. This marked the beginning of her transition into Business Development, where she introduced major brands like FabIndia, Zudio, and Westside into the company’s portfolio. Her association with the Tanishq jewellery business began in 2018. Immersing herself in its operations, she developed a deep understanding of the jewellery retail sector. By 2020, her passion and expertise had evolved significantly. Now, she manages multiple retail stores like Tanishq, FabIndia, Westside, Pantaloons, Zudio, and Hacker German Kitchens.
THE TANISHQ ASSOCIATION
The family’s Tanishq journey began in 1997, when her father established the first boutique on Ahmedabad’s C.G. Road. Her involvement with the brand deepened in 2018, allowing her to gain invaluable insights. Since 2020, she has contributed to significant growth, benefiting from Titan Company’s supportive approach and collaborative vision. With Titan operating 440 franchise-owned and 55 company-owned stores, she feels privileged to be part of its remarkable journey.
TECHNOLOGY AND FRANCHISING
Innovation has been central to Tanishq’s success, with tools like the Karat Meter and Lightscope revolutionizing the jewellery industry by distinguishing natural diamonds from lab-grown ones. The brand’s market ing strategy effectively combines digital outreach and cross-promotions on platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and the Tata Neu app, amplifying engagement and visibility. Franchising has served as a gateway for aspir[1]ing entrepreneurs, providing access to established business models and a learning platform for understanding industry nuances. Despite evolving market challenges, franchising continues to drive growth in jewellery retail. WOMEN IN BUSINESS As a woman entrepreneur, she draws inspiration from individuals who balance life and business with grace. She encourages aspiring women entrepreneurs to pursue their passions wholeheartedly, emphasizing that it’s never too late to find fulfillment and happiness in their endeavors.
WORK-LIFE BALANCE
Balancing work and family responsibilities is challenging yet rewarding. She credits her success to her supportive husband Bhavin, daughter Aastha, and helpful household staff. Her father Jatin Parekh’s encouragement has been instrumental in her growth. Despite juggling multiple responsibilities, the unwavering support from loved ones has made her journey manageable and fulfilling.
