- What prompted you to start Sales Geek?
I started Sales Geek in 2017. I always wanted to help smaller businesses and the SME community. I wanted to teach them the skills I had learnt in my sales career so they could benefit out of them.
- Why the name Sales Geek?
Someone once addressed me as a “sales geek” and the name just stuck with me. I invested a lot into my business and myself, learning and honing my skills, educating myself with science of psychology of various business owners and sales people. Backed all of this with reliable data. So, the science of psychology and the science of data came together making me a perfect geek. So when the business actually started, ‘Sales Geek’ was the perfect name to go for.
- How has the experience been so far?
When I started out, I was the only geek helping a small community in UK. Today, we have more than 50 geeks in 5 different continents helping businesses and their communities. A lot of work has gone into reaching this stage and it’s been a great experience so far.
- Why did you choose franchise as the mode of expansion?
Initially I didn’t want to go for franchising. It looked good on paper but I couldn’t feel it being beneficial for my business. Luckily, I got invited to an event at that time where a business had both its franchisors and franchisees present. That brand had more than 50 franchisees there and for the first time I saw and understood the beauty of having a franchise community. I loved to see the rapport and the relationship the franchisors-franchisees and franchisee-franchisee shared. And that’s when I decided to go for it.
- Why did you choose India as a market?
We had had some business exchange with the Indian govt earlier and India was always on our minds. India is a very exciting economy, poised to become the second largest economy in the world by 2030, so it was a great opportunity to tie up with Franchise India Knowledge Services and explore the business community here. I love the way people do business in India, it is very relationship driven and aligns perfectly with our values as an organization.
- What are the brand’s plans for India in the coming future?
Our main focus for the next 5 years is to make sales education more accessible to the mid to large scale organizations. We’ll do so by finding and recruiting people who could become “sales geeks” and in turn help their businesses or their business communities change the way “sales” is perceived. We aim to reach over 150 sales geeks in major cities in India in the next 5 years.
- How have you integrated technology into your business?
Technology forms a big part of our work culture. It is a huge enabler. We are also integrating AI tools into our work ways. We use AI extensively for marketing, education material, preparing frameworks, working on different platforms so as to help our franchisees. Technology has helped a small team of a growing business like ours handle a lot of work efficiently and effectively. Also, it has led to a happy workforce since the mundane and repetitive tasks can be easily handled by tech tools. This gives them space to be more creative and available to take on more queries and research on many subjects.
- What kind of support and training is provided to the franchisees by the brand?
We immerse our franchisees into a 5-week onboarding process when they join and they get a huge amount of training from us during those 5 weeks. Thereafter, regular trainings, around 10-12 hours every month follow for our franchisees across all subjects. For us, training and support is extremely important because when the franchisees grow in their business journeys, only then they can provide help and support to their business community.
