BatX Energies a lithium-ion battery recycling company, has inaugurated its state-of-the-art Critical Minerals Extraction Plant (HUB-1) in Uttar Pradesh. This initiative marks a significant achievement in extracting vital minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese from used lithium-ion batteries. The plant not only addresses resource scarcity but also supports India’s rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) sector and the vision of Net Zero 2070 and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
A New Success Story
After the success of the Black Mass production plant in Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh, which was launched at the end of 2022, this new plant has reached a commercial scale after a 21-month industrial pilot. The advanced hydrometallurgical plant uses BatX’s proprietary chemical process to extract high-purity minerals. It is capable of recycling all types of lithium-ion battery waste, including manufacturing rejects from future gigafactories.
A Key Step for the EV Sector
As the global demand for EVs grows, sourcing critical minerals outside China has become challenging and expensive. BatX Energies’ new plant addresses this issue with expertise in material extraction and the development of second-life energy storage applications for batteries.
Environmental Responsibility
Operating on a zero-emission, zero-waste process, this plant uses minimal energy and fully aligns with the Ministry of Environment & Forest's Battery Waste Management Rules 2022. This not only makes critical materials for EV batteries more affordable and accessible but also sets new standards for India’s evolving EV ecosystem.
Utkarsh Singh, Co-founder and CEO of BatX Energies, said, "Electric vehicles are at the heart of the clean energy revolution, and BatX Energies is proud to lead this transition. The HUB-1 plant is a symbol of our sustainable processes and circular economy."
Vikrant Singh, Co-founder and CTO of BatX, added, "This plant is the result of four years of hard work and research. We are grateful to our investors, stakeholders, and the Government of India, especially for the support from initiatives like Startup India, MSME, and EXIM Bank."
BatX Energies is committed to innovation and sustainability. The company uses data analytics and predictive modeling to optimize energy material performance. This initiative not only reduces waste but promotes circularity and provides cost-effective solutions for EV manufacturers.
