Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited has signed a contract with Lubi Industries to set up 1,400 fast DC electric vehicle chargers. The move supports India’s push for EV adoption and aligns with the government’s "Make in India" initiative.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has awarded a contract to Lubi Industries for the installation of 1,400 fast DC electric vehicle (EV) chargers across its retail outlets in India. Under the agreement, Lubi Industries will oversee the manufacturing, supply, installation, and commissioning of 60kW DC chargers.

This initiative is part of a broader push to expand India EV charging infrastructure, which currently lags behind the rapid increase in electric vehicle adoption. As per government data, India had approximately 7,000 public charging stations as of December 2023.

Lubi Industries will produce the chargers domestically, aligning with the government’s “Make in India” programme and its emphasis on local manufacturing in the EV sector. The company has assured that its chargers are designed for long-term use and comply with all regulatory standards.

“We are proud to partner with BPCL to contribute to India's EV infrastructure development. Our charging solutions are reliable and aimed at enhancing the EV user experience,” a representative from Lubi Industries stated.

BPCL, one of India’s leading oil marketing companies, operates over 20,000 retail outlets nationwide. The company has been diversifying its portfolio by including EV charging services, reflecting the government’s push to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

The Indian government has set an ambitious target of making 30% of all vehicle sales electric by 2030. To support this, the Ministry of Heavy Industries launched the FAME-II scheme with an allocation of ₹10,000 crore, aimed at promoting EV adoption and developing the necessary infrastructure.

Industry experts believe that expanding the charging network will alleviate range anxiety, one of the major concerns among potential EV buyers in India. The installation of these chargers is expected to commence in the coming months, marking a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future.
