The Delhi EV policy, which recently expired, has been extended for a final 15-day period before the new policy takes effect. According to officials, the draft of the new policy is ready and will be introduced soon. The upcoming framework aims to accelerate EV adoption while discouraging fossil fuel-based vehicles.
Currently, the Delhi EV policy provides a 25% purchase subsidy (up to ₹5,500) for e-cycles, ₹30,000 for e-rickshaws and e-carts, ₹5,000 per kWh of battery capacity (up to ₹30,000) for two-wheelers, and ₹30,000 for e-light commercial vehicles.
Sources indicate that Delhi EV Policy 2.0 is expected to be unveiled next month, with mandatory EV charging infrastructure for at least 20% of parking spaces in new buildings. For older buildings, 5% of parking spaces will be required to have EV charging facilities. Additionally, large parking areas will need to allocate specific provisions for EV charging. The policy also mandates that all garbage collection vehicles operated by MCD, DJB, and other civic agencies must transition to EVs in phases, achieving a 100% electric fleet by 2027.
