Exponent Energy has launched India's first 1MW rapid charging technology for electric buses, with plans to introduce a 1.5MW system for EVs later this year. The move follows BYD’s recent unveiling of its 1MW charging technology for cars in China, signaling a significant advancement in high-power EV charging.
In August 2024, Exponent Energy partnered with Veera Vahana to introduce the Veera Mahasamrat EV, an intercity electric bus featuring rapid charging capabilities. To support this initiative, the company developed its 1MW charging system, designed to cut charging times and enhance efficiency in commercial electric vehicles.
Founded in 2020 by former Ather Energy executives Arun Vinayak and Sanjay Balyal, Exponent Energy has built an integrated charging ecosystem, including the e^pack battery, e^pump charging station, and e^plug connector. This system allows for a 15-minute rapid charge and ensures a 3000-cycle battery life, using cost-effective lithium-ion cells.
With a growing footprint across India, Exponent Energy has enabled over 1,700 EVs to adopt its technology, facilitating more than 3.5 lakh rapid charging sessions and covering 20 lakh kilometers. Over the past two years, it has expanded its network to Delhi NCR, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.
The company has secured $44.6 million in funding from major investors, including Lightspeed, Eight Roads Ventures, YourNest VC, 3one4 Capital, AdvantEdge VC, and the family office of Dr. Pawan Munjal, Chairman and CEO of Hero MotoCorp.
With its latest innovation, Exponent Energy is poised to revolutionize EV charging infrastructure in India, driving the adoption of faster and more efficient electric mobility solutions.
