Greater Noida is set to enhance its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with the installation of 15 new charging stations, designed to provide full charging within 15-20 minutes. The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has identified high-footfall areas, including commercial complexes, parks, and key urban locations, to ensure accessibility and convenience for EV users.
To facilitate the project, GNIDA plans to outsource the installation and management of the charging stations to a private company, which is expected to receive a 10-year license. The selected operator will be required to share a portion of its revenue with GNIDA. The authority is currently evaluating different operational models to maintain affordability for users while encouraging wider EV adoption.
Officials have confirmed that each charging station will occupy less than 50 square meters and will be equipped with multiple nozzles, allowing simultaneous charging of multiple vehicles. Fast-charging capabilities will be integrated to minimise wait times, and digital payment options, including e-wallets, will be available to enhance user convenience.
Prerna Singh, GNIDA’s Additional CEO, stated that the stations will be built at locations with adequate parking space and will prioritise fast-charging features to serve a greater number of vehicles efficiently. She emphasised that the pricing model will aim to keep user fees low while ensuring financial sustainability. A high-level meeting is expected soon to finalise the operational framework and approve the executing company.
Proposed locations for the charging stations include high-traffic zones such as Alpha-2, Jagat Farm, and the Noida Expressway, with each site expected to house three charging points. Additional locations include the Government Institute of Medical Sciences, NIET College in Knowledge Park-2, and SVSP Stadium. Other planned sites include Alpha-1 Commercial Belt, Expo Mart, City Park, Delta-1, Ansal Plaza, and the RERA Office.
With this initiative, Greater Noida aims to strengthen its EV infrastructure and promote sustainable mobility, making the city more EV-friendly in the coming years.
