Harrier EV Showcased at Pune Test Track, Tata Highlights Automation in Manufacturing
Tata Motors has Showcased the production-ready version of the Harrier EV, which is expected to launch soon. Amid growing competition and declining market share in the EV segment, the company is expanding its portfolio with a new strategic approach.

Tata Motors has unveiled a production-ready version of its much-anticipated Harrier EV, signaling its potential launch in the near future. The model was first showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. Recently, the company demonstrated the vehicle’s various maneuvers on a test track in Pune, although it did not disclose detailed specifications or pricing.

During the showcase, Tata Motors highlighted the use of automation and robotics in the manufacturing process of the Harrier EV. The company has played a pivotal role in advancing India’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution, significantly shaping the country’s EV ecosystem. Beyond vehicle manufacturing, Tata Motors has also invested heavily in developing infrastructure to support EV adoption. As of mid-last year, the company held over 70% market share in the electric four-wheeler segment.

A key element of Tata Motors’ strategy has been the development of innovative EV models catering to a wide range of consumer needs. The Tata Nexon EV has emerged as one of India’s best-selling electric SUVs, appreciated for its impressive range and performance, making it a preferred choice among environmentally conscious buyers. Similarly, the Tata Tiago EV has made significant progress in the affordable EV segment, attracting entry-level electric hatchback buyers. Additionally, the Tata Tigor EV has played a crucial role in the fleet segment, providing a sustainable solution for commercial use.

Since September 2024, Tata Motors has experienced a decline in its market share, particularly in the EV segment. Several factors have contributed to this downturn, including intensified competition from rivals like MG Motor, which introduced models like the MG Windsor, posing a challenge to Tata’s dominance.

Furthermore, the expiration of the FAME 2 subsidy has led to a decline in fleet vehicle sales, impacting overall sales figures. Changing market dynamics and evolving consumer preferences have also played a role, with buyers now leaning towards newer models with advanced features, an area where Tata Motors has faced criticism.

To counteract these challenges, Tata Motors is focusing on expanding its product portfolio with innovative and attractive models. The recent launch of the Tata Curvv EV is a strategic move to capture the growing SUV market with its sleek design and advanced technology features. The Harrier EV is also part of this expansion plan, reinforcing Tata’s commitment to strengthening its EV lineup.

However, reports suggest that Tata Motors is not particularly keen on adopting MG Motor’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) strategy at this time. Instead, the company aims to focus on its unique approach to product development and infrastructure growth in the EV space.
