Volkswagen to Launch €20,000 Entry-Level Electric Car in 2027
Volkswagen has announced plans to launch a €20,000 entry-level electric car by 2027, making electric mobility more accessible. Volkswagen plans to make Wolfsburg an innovation hub and lead globally with its ‘Triple A’ strategy by 2030.

At a works meeting in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen brand CEO Thomas Schäfer outlined the brand’s future plans. Employees got their first look at the design of Volkswagen’s new entry-level electric car, priced at approximately €20,000.

Schäfer stated, “With the agreements made in December, we have initiated the most ambitious future plan in Volkswagen’s history. Our goal is to make electric mobility accessible to all.”

Volkswagen plans to unveil the show model of this new electric car in early March, with its world premiere set for 2027. Schäfer added, “An affordable, high-quality, and profitable electric Volkswagen, made in Europe for Europe. This will be the Champions League of automobile manufacturing.”

Wolfsburg to Remain Innovation and Production Hub

Schäfer reaffirmed that Wolfsburg would remain Volkswagen’s key production center. The company will produce future electric models under its Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), including the electric Golf and electric T-Roc.

Cavallo, Chairperson of the Works Council, stated, “Wolfsburg is the heart of the Group. Future electric cars will be developed and produced here on the new SSP platform. The production of the electric Golf and T-Roc in Wolfsburg will contribute over 500,000 units annually.”

“Triple A” Strategy: Accelerate, Attack, Achieve

Under the “Zukunft Volkswagen” (Future Volkswagen) plan, Volkswagen has introduced a new strategy to become the world’s leading volume automobile brand by 2030.

This strategy consists of three key phases:

1.Catch Up – Strengthening cost structures and expanding the existing model portfolio.

2.Attack – Launching nine new models by 2027, including the production version of the ID.2all (priced under €25,000) and the €20,000 entry-level electric car.

3.Lead – Setting new global standards in electric mobility as a technologically leading brand.

Since 2019, Volkswagen has sold over 1.35 million ID. series electric vehicles, including 500,000 ID.3 units. In 2023 alone, the company sold 383,100 all-electric vehicles.

ID.2all in 2026, Entry-Level EV in 2027

Volkswagen confirmed that the production version of the ID.2all will debut in 2026, priced below €25,000. The €20,000 entry-level electric car will follow in 2027, further enhancing the accessibility of electric mobility.
