Eternal, formerly known as Zomato, has rolled out its first electric rental bike fleet in Delhi NCR, marking a significant step in its journey towards sustainable food delivery. The company has deployed 300 electric bikes in the region, which will be made available on rent to its delivery partners. A nationwide rollout is expected to follow.
The initiative aligns with Eternal’s broader commitment to transition to a 100% electric vehicle (EV) delivery fleet by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions across its food delivery operations by 2033. Currently, about 10% of Eternal’s delivery workforce uses electric vehicles. The company claims this shift has already helped avoid approximately 4,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions—comparable to planting around 220,000 trees in FY25.
"Through the launch of these specially designed, efficient electric bikes on rent, we’re ensuring delivery partners can thrive while contributing to building a greener tomorrow," said Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Eternal.
The EV fleet was officially inaugurated by Ajay Chaudhary, IPS, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic Management Division, Zone II), who praised the move as a timely intervention in Delhi’s fight against pollution. "It is imperative that industries adopt sustainable practices. Eternal’s initiative is a commendable step in this direction," he said.
Eternal’s move comes as competition in the food delivery sector intensifies around sustainability goals. Earlier this year, Swiggy, Eternal’s primary competitor, also announced plans to electrify its entire delivery fleet by 2030.
With this launch, Eternal takes a firm stride toward greener logistics, aiming to empower gig workers while reducing environmental impact across urban India.
