Zuperia Auto Private Limited (formerly Lohia Auto Industries) has announced the expansion of its operations in the electric garbage collection and cargo vehicle sector. The company has secured an order from the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) to supply 40 electric garbage collection vehicles for the Bawana Industrial Area.
Following its recent restructuring, the company now operates under two brands: ‘Youdha’ for institutional customers and ‘Lohia’ for the premium segment. Zuperia is ramping up production capacity at its Kashipur facility and is preparing to launch a new range of electric loaders and cargo vehicles under the Youdha brand.
Ayush Lohia, CEO of Zuperia Auto, stated, "The real opportunity in the EV space lies beyond personal mobility. With increasing restrictions on diesel vehicles in cities and growing pressure on municipalities to adopt clean mobility, the cargo and garbage vehicle segments are emerging as key focus areas."
In 2024, India’s electric three-wheeler segment saw sales of approximately 694,466 units, an 18% increase compared to the previous year. The cargo sub-segment specifically registered a 45% year-over-year growth, driven by the growing e-commerce sector and last-mile delivery needs. Zuperia has already deployed electric garbage collection vehicles in Delhi-NCR, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Industry analysts estimate the current market for cargo and utility EVs in the fiscal year at approximately 93,000 units, with projections to exceed 150,000 units in the next 4-5 years.
The company claims its competitive advantage lies in its in-house research and development capabilities, dedicated manufacturing units, and the ability to design customized vehicles for specific institutional requirements.
