Mr. Kumaran Pillai, CEO, Apple Seed Venture Accelerator, graduated with a Bachelor's of Information Technology from the University of Queensland and received a Letter of Commendation for outstanding performance in Economics as an undergraduate. Kumaran is a serial entrepreneur with more than 12 years of entrepreneurial experience both locally and abroad. He started his first business, Zenith Software Technology at the age of twenty-eight after a short stint in Hewlett Packard. In May 2000, Kumaran received S$600,000 of government grant administered by the National Science and Technology Board.

Kumaran founded his second business, Protege Software, focusing his efforts into building applications for Banking and Financial Services Sector.

Kumaran won several local and international awards. In 2007, Protege Software under his stewardship won the Best Financial Application Award for the local leg of the Asia Pacific ICT Awards. In 2008, Pillai won the International Itanium Solutions Award for the Enterprise Category.
